Baseball Improves to 9-3 With 17-1 Win

(Winter Haven, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team improved to 9-3 on the season, posting a 17-1 win over Richard Stockton College on Monday afternoon.

The Ospreys put their lone run on the board in the second inning and held the lead until the top of the fourth. The Red Devils erupted for 10 runs over the next three innings, tacking on seven more in the seventh and eighth.

Senior Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) drove in two runs with a double in the fourth to trigger the rally. He came in to score on a double from Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) to give Dickinson a 3-1 lead.

Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) doubled to drive in two more runs in a four-run fifth inning, and senior Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) launched a three-run homer in the sixth to put the Devils up, 10-1.

First-year Adam Quine (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) replaced Primavera and drove in two runs with a single in the top of the sixth. The Devils tacked on four runs in the eighth for the final of 17-1.

Rick Hopkins (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) went 3-for-5 with three runs scored while Primavera went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. That proved to be a hot spot in the line-up as Quine reached on an error in the eighth, adding another RBI to finish with three on the day. Dolan went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

First-year Ryan Vasel (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) earned the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing seven hits and recording four strikeouts. Sean McEwen (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) came in in relief, allowing two hits and striking out three in the final three innings.

The Red Devils are off on Tuesday before returning to the diamond for a 3:30 match-up with the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
