(Winter Haven, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team traded runs with the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the early innings, but blew the game open and claimed a 19-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) drove in two runs with a triple to put Dickinson on top, 2-0, in the bottom of the second. The teams traded runs in the third and fourth innings to put the Red Devils in front, 4-2, heading into the fifth.
The Trailblazers scored twice in the top of the fifth to tie the game, 4-4. The Devils answered with four in the bottom half of the inning. Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) doubled and scored on a two-RBI single from classmate Stephen Sakowicz (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South).
The Red Devil bats erupted in the seventh as they hammered out two homeruns and scored nine runs in the inning. Dolan launched a three-run bomb and Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) hit a solo shot in the next at bat.
Parker doubled to score two more runs and Sakowicz singled in a pair to stretch the lead to 17-4. First-year Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) singled to drive in two runs in the eighth for the final of 19-4.
Dolan led the way, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs. Sakowicz went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored on the day. Ian Brink (Williamstown, Mass./Mount Greylock) had a solid start on the mound with Alex Gusikoff (Ardmore, Pa./Malvern Prep) coming on to earn the win. Billy O'Neil (South Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) recorded three strikeouts in two innings of relief.
The Red Devils improve to 10-3 on the season. They return to action on Thursday, facing Bowdoin in a double-header at 9:15 am.
