(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team played at home on Sunday, but were the visitors in the scorebook as Haverford's field was unplayable after Saturday's snow storm. The 'Fords came away with a sweep, remaining unbeaten in the Centennial Conference at 5-0, improving to 17-7 overall.
A single and a double in the fifth inning led to a pair of runs for Haverford. They tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the sixth and a homerun by Ben Furlong in the seventh accounted for the five run tally.
Senior Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) led the Red Devils, going 2-for-2 with a walk, sacrifice bunt and a pair of stolen bases. Senior Matt Cowell (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) allowed just two earned runs in a solid six inning effort.
Haverford scored lone runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings of game two. The Red Devils looked to rally late, scoring in the eighth and ninth, but were unable to plate the equalizer, falling 3-2.
Junior Rick Hopkins (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) doubled in the eighth and scored on a single from first-year Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh). In the ninth Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) led-off the inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School).
Hopkins and Thompson each had two hits and a double in game two. Dolan added a triple in the fourth inning.
Ben Woodard (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) recorded six strikeouts in a six inning effort and Reid Collins (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) came in for three strong innings of relief, allowing one hit and recording two strikeouts.
The Red Devils slip to 15-11 overall and 2-4 in the CC. They are home again on Tuesday, hosting Gettysburg College at 3:30 pm.
