Red Devils Tally 15 Hits in 9-5 Setback

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team had one bad inning on Friday, but host Gettysburg capitalized with a 9-5 decision to take the series.

The Red Devils had a strong start, scoring twice in the top of the first. Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) singled and put the Red Devils on the board as Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) doubled. Primavera came around when first-year Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) singled to right.

The Bullets tallied lone unearned runs in the first and second innings to tie the game. They added seven in the bottom of the third to take a 9-2 lead. Andrew Hourigan drove in three runs with a triple and came in on a double from Shawn Moffitt.

Rick Hopkins (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) singled in the fourth and scored on an RBI base-hit from Brian McCloud (Medfield, Mass./Medfield). The Red Devils added two more runs in the ninth. Senior Evan Solomon (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) led-off with a single and Hopkins launched a two-run homer to left field.

Hopkins went 4-for-5 on the day with two RBIs and two runs scored. Primavera added a pair of hits and Austin Sumners (W. Trenton, N.J./Pennington School) went 2-for-4 on the day. Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) reached twice on a pair of walks while the Bullets only surrendered three. The Red Devils did make contact at the plate, pounding out 15 hits.

The Bullets improve to 18-10 overall and 6-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 15-13 overall and 2-6 in the CC. The Red Devils return home for a 12:30 double-header with Ursinus College.
