(Pasadena, Calif.) – The Dickinson baseball team came away with a split in a pair of a pitcher's duels at Cal Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils won the opener, 1-0 but dropped the nightcap, 2-1.
Ethan Collins (Elmer, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) tossed a three-hitter, going six innings and recording eight strikeouts in the shutout effort to win game one.
Senior Reid Collins (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) came on for his third save of the season, striking out two in the seventh to close.
The Red Devils scored the lone run of the game in the fourth inning. Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) singled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI from Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter).
The Beavers strung together three hits to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two.
First-year Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) reached with a two-out single in the fourth and came around to put the Red Devils on the board on a double from Max Brown (Annapolis, Md./McDonogh).
Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) doubled down the left field line and moved to third in the sixth, but was stranded, keeping the score, 2-1.
The score would hold as Cortland Perry allowed just five hits in the win. Jake Geddes (Darien, Conn./Darien) surrendered five hits as well, recording three strikeouts. Collins came on for the final two outs, booking the final two hitters looking.
They are scheduled to face Claremont Mudd-Scripps on Monday at 1:00 pm eastern time.
