Field Hockey Tops Frostburg 4-0 in Season Opener

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team opened the 2017 season with 4-0 shutout against visiting Frostburg State University on Friday afternoon. The Red Devils struck just once in the first half but turned up the pressure, finding the cage three times after the break.

First-year Emily Mycek (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) put the Red Devils on the board, finishing an assist from senior Alex Bonser (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) in the 22nd minute.

Seniors Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) and Lily Mott (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) tallied unassisted goals to stretch the lead to 3-0 in the second half.

Bonser added her second point of the day, lofting a beautiful shot into the upper corner of the cage for the final goal of the game, with just over five minutes remaining.

The Red Devils outshot the Bobcats 26-7 and held a 6-2 advantage on penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Nicole Leighty made 26 saves on the afternoon while senior Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) recorded four saves in the shutout effort.

The Red Devils are in action again tomorrow afternoon, hosting Bridgewater College at 2:00 pm.
