Red Devils Win Home Opener for 3-0 Start

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team pulled away late to post a 75-65 win over visiting Muhlenberg College on Tuesday night. The Red Devils improved to 3-0 on the season and captured the Centennial Conference opener for a 1-0 start while the Mules fall to 2-1 and 0-1.

Sophomore Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) scored the Devils' first seven points to give the hosts an early 7-2 lead and stretched the margin to 11-4 with a lay-up at the 14:46 mark.

The Mules used an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to one at the midpoint of the half. They pulled in front by five, late in the period before junior Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) tied the game with a jumper and three-pointer.

Sophomore Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) got hot and drained three straight three-pointers to give Dickinson a 37-34 lead at the break.

The teams traded field-goals with Muhlenberg taking a 46-45 lead with 11:55 remaining in the game. The Devils went on a 6-0 run to take a five-point advantage. Brown and sophomore guard Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) traded three-pointers with the Mules to hold a 57-52 edge at the 7:21 mark.

Hinckley fed classmate Michael Jurzynski (Pearl River, N.Y./The Master's School) and Romocki completed a three-point play to extend the margin to double-figures with 5:47 left to play. Romocki finished strong at the line, hitting his final six free throws while Hinckley added a pair as well to secure the win.

Brandon Larose led Muhlenberg with a game-high 19 points, adding four assists on the night.

Romocki led the Red Devil offensive with 18 points, four rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. He went 7-for-7 from the line as well. Brown and Wright each tallied 17 points and combined for seven rebounds. Wright dished out six assists while Brown added a pair and recorded three steals.

Junior Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) reached double-figures with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. He added three rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Hinckley scored seven points and handed out six assists while Jurzynski chipped in with six points and six rebounds. Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) tallied seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

The Red Devils (3-0, 1-0 CC) are home again on Sunday, hosting #2-ranked Christopher Newport at 4:00 pm.
