Leon Nets Five as #7-Red Devils Run Past Montclair State 14-8

 

 

(Montclair, N.J.) – The #7-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and improved to 4-0 on the year with a 14-8 victory at Montclair State University on Saturday.

 

Senior Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) scored five goals while classmate Matt Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) scored twice and dished out three assists.

 

The Red Devils took a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter behind two goals and an assist from Brian Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield).

 

The Devils stretched the lead to 8-1 before the hosts answered with back-to-back tallies. MSU cut the deficit to four at 9-5, and 11-7, at the end of the third. Leon struck twice in the fourth quarter as the Devils held a 3-2 advantage for the final of 14-8.

 

Junior Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norwalk Academy) won 17-of-22 face-offs and controlled 12 ground balls. Long pole midfielder Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) caused four turnovers and controlled a pair of ground balls.

 

Peter Zouck (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) and Slay Sudah (Franklin Park, N.J./St. Joseph) each caused three turnovers. Draper Donley (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) picked up three GBs.

 

Senior goaltender Greg Hanley (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) made 16 saves and controlled three ground balls.

 

Michael Schreck scored four goals to lead Montclair State (2-1) while Zach Schreck added a pair of goals and three assists. Michael Dorn made four saves and Andrew Bryant stopped six shots on the day.

 

The Red Devils improve to 4-0 on the season. They return home to face Roanoke College on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
