Montross Goal Sends Devils to Centennial Conference Final
|(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's soccer team advanced to the Centennial Conference Championship with a 1-0 win over top-seed Muhlenberg on Friday night.|
Junior Mike Montross (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase)scored in the 71st minute on an assist from first-year Nicolas Tierno (Sicklerville, Pa./Timber Creek Regional). Tierno redirected a cross from the right side and Montross finished off the goal.
The Devils went man-up four minutes later when Muhlenberg's Andrew Lasiy received his second yellow card and had to leave the game. The game was physical throughout the match as 35 fouls were called in the contest.
The Red Devils held a slim advantage in shots, 8-5, while Muhlenberg forced six corners while allowing none in the defensive end. Jason Daniels made one save on the might for Muhlenberg. First-year Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made three saves on the way to his fifth shutout of the year.
The #4-seeded Red Devils improve to 14-3-2 overall. They will face #3-seed Johns Hopkins, who upset #2-seed Swarthmore, 1-0, in the other semifinal. The Championship is set for 7:00 pm at Muhlenberg.
