(Cambridge, Mass.) – The #22-ranked Dickinson men's squash team slipped past #28-Bowdoin, 5-4, and won their third straight match with a 7-2 decision over 25th-ranked Tufts University.
All five Red Devil points in the Bowdoin match came from 3-0 decisions. Sophomore Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School, Conn.) went (11-7, 11-8, 11-7) in the top flight while classmate Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) won his first two sets 11-6 and 11-5, and held on for the sweep, 15-13.
Bowdoin claimed the points at three and four with scores of 3-1 and 3-2. The Devils came back to capture the next three flights in straight sets to secure the win. Harrison Mayo (Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton) won the fifth (11-7, 11-7, 11-5) while Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) had a strong second set in the sixth, (12-10, 11-2, 11-9).
Vincent Warzecha (Chester Springs, Pa./Malvern Prep) tallied the fifth point with an (11-7, 11-5, 11-7) decision. Senior Charlie Fisher (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) added an exhibition win as well (11-6, 11-3, 11-5).
Dickinson captured the first seven flights to post a 7-2 victory in the nightcap. Elsergany had a dominant win while Holappa survived a four-set battle after dropping the opener, 11-6. He came back for the point (11-7, 14-12, 12-10).
Andrew Strudwick (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) claimed the third flight 3-0 while Warzecha went straight sets to win the seventh. Mayo and Litman had strong competition in the middle flights, joining Alex Wattles (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) for 3-1 victories.
The Red Devils improve to 7-8 overall. They are scheduled to take on host MIT on Saturday at 10:30 am.
