Four Records Fall, Murray Wins 50 Freestyle at CC Meet

(Lancaster, Pa.) - Dickinson College sophomore Doug Murray (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) successfully defended his title in the 50 yard freestyle at the 2010 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships on Friday.

 

Murray clocked a time of 21.18 to win the event and earn First-team All-CC honors. He broke his own school record in the opening session of the, clocking an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 21.12 to erase his old mark of 21.23.

 

Junior Andrew Wade (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) earned All-Conference honors, placing second in the final with a time of 21.41. He placed third in the prelims with a time of 21.69. Senior Chris Hoolehan (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) also advanced to the finals in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.92. He placed eighth in the final, touching the wall in 22.08.

 

Murray, Wade and Hoolehan were joined by Ed Barnard (Springfield, Pa./Haverford School) to set a school record in the 200 free relay. They earned All-CC honors, placing second with a time of 1:25.59.

 

The Devils also set a record in the 400 medley relay, placing second with a time of 3:33.07. First-year Zach Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) joined with Murray, Wade and Barnard in the medley. Murray erased his own mark in the 100 backstroke, clocking a school record 53.95 in the lead leg of the relay.

 

The Red Devils are currently third in the team standings with 161.5 points. Franklin & Marshall leads with 258, followed by Swarthmore with 207. Competition continues through the weekend at Franklin & Marshall.
