Men's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker in Playoff Opener

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's tennis team suffered a heartbreaker in the opening round of the Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Championship, dropping a 5-3 decision to visiting Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles. First-years Sam Coan (Washington, D.C./Bullis School) and Leonid Sorkin (St. Petersburg, Russia/U. of Nebraska H.S.) won the second flight, 8-5 while first-year Andrew Lai (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater) and sophomore Joey Bolanos (San Salvador, El Salvador/Escuela Americans) earned the point in the third flight with a score of 8-5 as well.

Coan posted a (6-3, 6-3) win in the second singles flight to claim the Devils' third point. Justin Pace (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) went three sets, falling the in the third flight while Bolanos and Lai both went to tie-breakers in the second set.

The Red Devils finish the season 9-10 overall. F&M advances to the semifinals at Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
