(Carlisle, Pa.) – Dickinson senior Mason Hepner (Mount Joy, Pa./Manheim Central) was named the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field, Track Performer of the Year, announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Hepner turned in some outstanding performances at the 2017 Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships, running to titles in the 1500 meters and as the anchor of the 4x800 meter relay. Hepner ran a great final leg as the Red Devils were just off school record pace to win the 4x800.
He won the 1500 meters to add First-team All-Conference honors and currently ranks seventh, nationally this season, clocking a time of 4:38.49 at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic, back in April. He received honorable mention with a third place finish in the 800 meters, and on Monday night broke the school record in that event with a mark of 1:52.39 at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier.
Senior Patrick Nolan (Westport, Conn./Staples) earned First-team honors with the 4x800 relay, joining junior Billy Dougherty (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and sophomore Eric Herrmann (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown). Herrman had a great race in the 1500 meters as well, just missing All-CC honors with a fourth place finish.
First-years Bryce Descavish (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and Adam Gamber (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) received honorable mention with a pair of third-place performances. Descavish, who was the CC cross country Rookie of the Year, claimed bronze in the 5000 meters while Gamber capped a great start to his collegiate career with a bronze medal in the pole vault.
Hepner has a solid time in the 1500 meters and will look for an invitation to the NCAA National Championships when the fields are announced at the end of the week.
