Red Devils Open Season at Susquehanna

(Selinsgrove, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's indoor track & field team started off the season at the 2018 River Hawk Opener at Susquehanna University on Friday night.

The Red Devils pole vaulters led the charge with junior Adam Gamber (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and sophomore Gavin Wood (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) claiming the top two spots with heights of 4.10 and 3.80 meters, respectively.

Senior Duncan Hopkins (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) ran to a pair of third-place finishes in the 800 and 3,000-meters. He crossed the line in 2:08.14 in the 800 and clocked a mark of 8:56.26 on the 3K.

Sophomore Brock Hartman (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) had a throw of 13.21 meters to place third in the shot put. Senior Francisco Villarreal (Carson, Calif./Carson) was ninth in the weight throw.

Senior Zach Popkin (Washington, D.C./Maret School) won the triple jump with a distance of 11.35 meters and had a top-15 showing in the long jump.

First-year Titus Clark (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) had a pair of fourth-place finishes in the long jump (6.21m) and the high jump (1.78m) with sophomore Ben Sobel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) clearing 1.63 meters to take sixth in the high jump.

First-year Christopher Scharf (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) was fourth in the 800 and sixth in the 3000 while Charles Scharf (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) came across seventh and eighth. Odin Bules (Union Mills, Ill./South Central) added an eighth-place finish in the 800 while first-year Ian Wessner (Davidson, N.C./Community School of Davidson) was 10th.

First-year Ben Brandeis (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meters, posting a time of 53.85 and placed 12th in the 200 meters. Classmate Samuel Novak (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) clocked a time of 24.09 to finish seventh in the 200.

The Red Devils are in action again next Saturday, traveling to the Haverford Invitational.
