(Tucson, Arizona) – The Dickinson softball team closed out its schedule in Tucson, splitting a pair of games on Friday afternoon. The Red Devils started the day with a thriller, slipping past Eastern Connecticut State, 5-4. They suffered a 10-0 setback to Wisconsin-Lacrosse in game two to close out the week.
Rachel Brenowitz (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning to score Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) and put the Red Devils on the board. Alicia Lane (Bolton, Mass./Garaway) doubled and scored on an RBI single from first-year Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) in the third.
Eastern Connecticut capitalized on an error in the fifth to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Devils answered with two runs with the help of an error on the other side.
Maureen Moroz (Hatfield, Pa./Pope John Paul II) singled to start the inning and scored as Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) reached on an error. Epstein singled to score Torlincasi, putting Dickinson up, 4-1.
The Warriors used a pair of errors, a double and a big single from Jessica Seym to score three runs and tie the game in the top of the sixth inning.
Parise doubled to score Lane in the bottom of the sixth and the Devils would hold on for the 5-4 win.
Parise went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the nightcap while Lane went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) recorded seven strikeouts, scattering five hits to earn the win and improve to 2-5 on the season.
The Red Devils head north with a record of 3-9 overall. They are scheduled to host Elizabethtown College on Monday afternoon at 5:00 pm.
