Softball Wins Two in Arizona For 4-1 Start

(Tucson, Ariz.) – The Dickinson softball team improved to 4-1 on the season, posting a pair of 11-3 wins in Arizona on Monday. The Red Devils started off the day with a win over the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and then posted the same score to top Augsburg University.

RIT scored in the top of the first before first-year Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./William Penn Charter) tripled and scored to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.

The Red Devils erupted in the second as Alissa Lema (Lutherville, Md./Towson) drove in two runs with a triple and Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) launched a three-run homer to put Dickinson up, 10-1.

The Red Devils capitalized on back-to-back walks in the third as Clayton came around on an RBI single from sophomore Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush).

The Tigers cut into the margin in the fourth, scoring a pair but could not extend the game.

Parise went 3-for-3 in the opener while Clayton tallied three RBIs and two runs scored. First-year Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) earned the win in the circle, allowing six hits and striking out three.

Augsburg tallied three runs in the first inning but that would be all as the Red Devils countered with two in the first, three in the second and five in the fourth to stretch the final margin to eight.

Gutpelet drew a pair of walks, stole two bases and scored three runs to lead the way. Clayton went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Kueny tossed a three-hitter, recording seven strikeouts as the Red Devils improve to 4-1.

They are scheduled to play Wisconsin-La Crosse and Cornell College on Tuesday.
