(Hunterdon, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team played well in an opening game setback and forced a split with a win in the nightcap at Juniata College on Thursday.
The Red Devils fell 9-7 but bounced back to post a 6-2 win in game two.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind a two-run single from Catherine Miller.
Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) singled and scored in the third inning and doubled to drive in Acocella to put the Red Devils in front, 4-3, in the fourth.
Acocella singled to score Siecinski in the fifth, but Juniata rallied with six runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Seburn doubled and came in on a double from Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter) and Siecinski drove in Gutpelet in the sixth to cut the deficit to 9-7. Juniata held in the seventh to take game one.
Seburn went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Acocella added a pair of hits and scored twice while Siecinski drove in two runs.
Acocella homered to lead-off the second inning of game two as the Red Devils erupted with four runs in the top half of the inning. Back-to-back singles led to an RBI for Hannah Brenner (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) and back-to-back hits from Gutpelet and Alissa Lema (Lutherville, Md./Towson) stretched the lead to 4-0.
Fabbo doubled and scored on single from Gutpelet in the fourth to stretch the margin to 5-0.
Juniata countered with two runs in the sixth and the Devils tacked on one in the seventh for the final of 6-2. Siecinski tripled and came across on a sacrifice fly from Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford).
Gutpelet went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Hahn went 2-for-4 as Dickinson combined for 11 hits in the nightcap.
The Red Devils move to 11-11 overall. They are on the road on Saturday, traveling to Washington College for a Centennial Conference double-header.
