(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball had a tough match-up on Thursday night, traveling to unbeaten and #22-ranked Muhlenberg College. The Mules improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference with a 73-49 win.
The Red Devils had a strong start, playing to an 8-8 tie, at the midpoint of the first quarter. Muhlenberg came alive, going on a 15-0 run to pull in front, 23-8, at the first break.
The Mules built on the lead in the second quarter, but the Red Devils would come out strong after halftime to outscore the hosts, 16-11, in the third period.
The Red Devils opened the second half with a 7-2 run, capped by a three-point play from Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg). Lesher and senior Mairead Donahue (Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph) combined to go 8-for-9 from the line in the quarter.
They cut the deficit to 59-37 at the end of the third and played even in the fourth with the Mules holding a 14-12 advantage for the final period.
Chelsea Gary scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Mules.
Lesher was just shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, going a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Sophomore Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) tallied nine points while first-year Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) added eight. Sophomore Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) chipped in with six points and five rebounds, and Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) had three assists and three rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference. They return home to face Swarthmore College at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
