Red Devils Rally But Bullets Hold On

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team put up a solid fight against visiting Gettysburg, but the Bullets outlasted the Red Devils for a 69-55 win on Tuesday night at the Kline Center.

The Red Devils came out strong and traded baskets with the Bullets to open the first period. Lauren McBride (Trenton, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) hit a jumper to put the Red Devils up, 11-10, before the visitors closed out the quarter with a 7-2 run to lead, 17-13.

Gettysburg built the lead to 11 in the second quarter but sophomore Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) answered on the other end with a three-pointer to immediately cut the deficit back to single digits.

Emma Dorshimer finished off the half with a field-goal and a three-pointer to stretch the lead to 37-23 at halftime.

McBride led the way at the break, scoring 12 points while Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

Gettysburg pulled in front by 19, early in the third quarter but the Red Devils quickly countered, making the score 49-37, forcing the Bullets to call timeout.

Dickinson kept battling to keep the Bullets in striking distance. Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa)  hit a jumper to close the gap to eight, but that would be as close as the Devils could get down the stretch.

Padalino knocked down a pair of late three-pointers and first-year Maeda came up with some outstanding defense during the Devils' late run.

McBride finished with a team-high 16 points on the night, hitting 8-of-11 shots from the floor while Padalino hit a trio of three-pointers, scoring 13 points while controlling seven rebounds.

Lesher worked her way to another double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds, adding a block and a steal as well. Maeda was a point shy of double-figures, scoring nine points to go with five rebounds and a pair of steals. Hannah Heiring Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) finished with four points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.

Dorshimer led the Bullets (19-2, 15-1) with 19 points and five rebounds, hitting four three-pointers.

The Red Devils are home again on Saturday, hosting Ursinus College at 2:00 pm.
