Deutsch Nets Career-High 27 to Start New Year

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team started off the new year with a big win, turning back Lancaster Bible College, 69-34, on Wednesday night at the Kline Center.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 7-0 lead and held a 23-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. First-year Kate Deutsch (Marlton, N.J./Camden Catholic) led the charge, going 5-for-5 while controlling five rebounds in the opening frame.

The Red Devils kept the Chargers in single-digits until almost the midpoint of the second quarter as Deutsch put-back a rebound for a 35-8 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the half.

She finished with 17 points in the first half while Jennifer Kremp (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) hit a pair of three-pointers, adding 10 points and five rebounds before the break.

The third quarter was much of the same as the Red Devils continued to roll. Deutsch netted the Devils' first 10 points of the second half to finish with a game and career-high 27 points.

Senior Jonica Brown (Mohnton, Pa./The Hill School) had a huge fourth-quarter, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, adding a pair of free throws to finish with 11 points and four rebounds. Deutsch went 11-for-14 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line, adding eight rebounds.

Kremp finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals while Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) went 4-for-5 from the line, adding seven points, four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) chipped in with four points, three assists and three steals.

The Red Devils improve to 4-6 on the season. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Bryn Mawr College at 1:00 pm.
