Deutsch Named CC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year

(Carlisle, Pa.) – Dickinson first-year Kate Deutsch (Marlton, N.J./Camden Catholic) was named the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, announced on Wednesday. Deutsch had an outstanding season, earning Second-team All-Conference honors as well.

Deutsch ranked second in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.9 points per game, shooting a conference-best 56.2 percent from the field. She was one of the top rebounders in the CC, pulling down 7.6 per game.

Deutsch recorded seven double-doubles on the year, controlling 190 rebounds and breaking into the single-season top 10 with 35 blocked shots. She tallied 32 assists and 13 steals and shot a solid 73 percent from the free throw line.

She scored a career-high 30 points at Swarthmore College and tallied 27 in a win over Lancaster Bible College. She had eight games with double-digit rebounds, controlling a season-high 13 against Franklin & Marshall.

The Red Devils made a great run at the conference playoffs and were in contention right up until the final game of the season. They had a great outing against #22-ranked Gettysburg in the home finale, rolling past the Bullets, 79-49.

Sophomore guard Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) was named to the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team.

The Red Devils finished 13-12 overall and 10-10 in the Centennial Conference.
