(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #22-ranked Dickinson women's lacrosse team made a late run at #4-ranked Franklin & Marshall but couldn't catch the Diplomats as they slipped away 9-7 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devils held the Diplomats to just a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes before sophomore Erika Bloes (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) finished an assist from senior Anne Dunster (Cos Cobb, Conn./Greenwich) to cut the deficit to 2-1.

F&M stretched the lead to 5-1 with a 3-0 run late in the first half. Senior Maddie Parker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) converted a free position at the 1:34 mark to make the score 5-2 at halftime.

Parker found the net again to open the second half and pull the Red Devils within two, just under two minutes in.

The Diplomats countered with four straight goals to lead 9-3 with 16:16 remaining in the game. Dickinson made a hard run at the visitors over the final 15 minutes.

Dunster scored a great goal in transition as junior defender Ashley Conner (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) tallied the assist with a beautiful lead pass.

Dunster found the net again and sophomore Greta Holt (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) cut the deficit to 9-6 with just over six minutes to play.

The Red Devils pulled within two a minute later, making things interesting with five minutes remaining in regulation.

The Diplomats were able to hold on down the stretch, holding on to the top spot in the Centennial Conference at 8-0 while moving to 13-3 overall.

Conner added a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls to go with her assist while sophomore Mack Maurer (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) controlled three draws and Laurie Travaglini (Darien, Conn./Darien) picked up three ground balls.

First-year goaltender Drew Yager (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) had a phenomenal start and finished with 13 saves on the afternoon.

The Red Devils slip to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference. They travel to Ursinus College on Saturday to take on the Bears at 12:00 pm.
