Women's Squash Advances to Walker Cup Final

(Cambridge, Mass.) – The #17-ranked Dickinson women's squash team advanced to the finals of the Walker Cup at the College Squash Association Team Nationals on Saturday morning, posting a 7-2 win over #21 Wesleyan University.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 2-0 start with a straight set win from senior Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover School, Conn.) and a 3-1 victory from Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga).

First-year Carley Barton (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite) rolled to a straight set win in the eight spot while Eloise Nimoityn (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) held off a hard fought rally from Anania Vir (11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 5-11, 11-5) to put Dickinson up, 4-0.

First-year Aya Sobhy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Blair Academy) clinched the match with the Devils' fifth point, winning the fifth flight (11-5, 11-8, 11-3).

Sophomore Jaime Leigh Edghill (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name) added a straight set win at the number seven spot while junior Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Atenas) earned the point in the second flight (11-6, 4-11, 11-8, 11-9).

The Red Devils improve to 10-8 on the season. They return to action on Sunday morning at 11:30 am, facing Bates College for the Cup Championship. Bates earned the spot with a 7-2 victory over Tufts University in the other semifinal match up.
