Women's Tennis Closes Out Break With 9-0 Victory

(Orlando, Fla.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team celebrated St. Patrick's Day with its first win of the season, posting a 9-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday morning.

The Red Devils had some dominant performances with seniors Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julian's School) and Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) starting things off with an 8-0 win at number one doubles.

Parks claimed second singles (6-0, 6-1) while Nunes did not surrender a game in either match, posting a (6-0, 6-0) win in the second flight.

First-year Olivia Shea (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) did not allow a game in the fourth singles flight, winning in straight sets. She joined junior Lauren Altschuler (Malvern, Pa./Eastern) for an 8-2 win in second doubles.

Altcshuler battled to a 6-4 decision in the first set and closed out her match in the top flight with a 6-0 second set.

Sophomore Lydia Fox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Arlington) and junior Jaclyn Baum (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) completed the sweep with straight set wins in the fifth and sixth singles flights. Baum joined first-year Elisa Varlotta (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) to capture third doubles, 8-6.

The Red Devils improve to 1-3 on the season. They return north to open Centennial Conference play next Saturday, hosting Johns Hopkins University at 1:00 pm.
