Red Devils Keep Coming But E'Town Holds in 3-0 Setback

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to visiting Elizabethtown College on Wednesday night at the Kline Center.

The Red Devils had a strong start and rallied in the first set to cut the lead to 21-19, but the Blue Jays would hold on, 25-20.

The visitors jumped out to an early 8-3 advantage and led 14-6 at the midpoint of the set before Red Devils rallied once again, cutting the deficit to 16-12. Sarah Schneider tallied back-to-back kills to trigger a final run for Elizabethtown as they claimed the second set, 25-14.

The third set had a similar scenario with the Blue Jays pulling in front, 14-5. The Devils kept grinding and would twice pull within five, but the Blue Jays would close out the match with a 25-16 score in the third.

Sophomore Tatiana Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas) tallied a match-high 16 digs and handed out four assists on the night. First-year Christina Chu (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) dished out 11 assists and tallied five digs while Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott Secondary) added eight digs, seven assists and a kill.

First-year Hannah Riley (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) led the attack with eight kills while Jenna Schumann (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Kylie Albertsen Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) each added six. Emma Lange (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin) had five big kills in the middle as well.

The Red Devils slip to 4-6 on the season. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore College at 1:00 pm in the Centennial Conference opener.
