Washington Outlasts Devils in Five-Set Marathon

(Chestertown, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team, coming off a huge win over #16-ranked Johns Hopkins, played another thriller on Saturday but Washington College would come out on top, 3-2.

The match was incredibly close from the first set. The Red Devils claimed the opener 25-15 before the second and third sets were decided by just two points, Washington took the second, 27-25, before the Red Devils answered, 25-23, to take a 2-1 lead.

The Shorewomen forced a fifth set, pulling even in the fourth 25-18. The deciding set was more of the same. Washington stretched the margin to three points at 7-4 but Dickinson would pull even at 9-9. The teams traded points to a 15-15 tie before the hosts strung together back-to-back points to escape with the win, 17-15.

The Red Devils put up some big numbers on the afternoon. First-year Morgan Biggs (Stephenson, Va./James Wood) led the attack with a match-high 21 kills to go with four blocks and three digs.

Sophomore Jamie Singer (Livingston, N.J./Golda Och) posted her second-straight double-double, recording 29 digs and 10 kills. Sophomore libero Tatiana Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas) tallied a match-high 39 digs, adding five kills, four assists and three aces.

Junior Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriot Secondary) had a double-double as well, handing out 32 assists and picking up 11 digs.

Elise Butler (Chester Springs, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) and Emma Lange (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin) each added 10 kills had three block assists. Kristin Allgaier (Reston, Va./South Lakes) chipped in with 10 assists, six digs and a pair of aces.

The Red Devils slip to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road on Wednesday and Thursday, traveling to York College and Lancaster Bible. Both matches are scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
