(Newville, Pa.) – Dickinson senior Sofia Canning (Portland, Maine/Waynflete) placed second overall at the 2017 NCAA Mideast Regionals, at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa., on Saturday afternoon.
Canning was just four seconds behind individual champion, Ellie Clawson, who led top-ranked Johns Hopkins to the team title. The #23-ranked Red Devils placed fifth overall in the team standings, finishing behind #18-Elizabethtown, #25-Haverford and Carnegie Mellon.
Sophomore Tessa Cassidy (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) joined Canning to earn All-Region honors, placing 26th overall with a time of 23:05.
First-year Emma Johnston (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) was just one place away from earning All-Region honors, placing 36th (23:16) and classmate Evelyn Lantz (Manchester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) crossed the line 38th with a time of 23:20.
Senior Kelsey Horowitz (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) clocked a time of 24:03 to finished 73rd.
The Red Devils will now wait to see if they receive and at-large bid to the NCAA National Championships, next weekend. Bids will be announced on Sunday afternoon.
