House Leads Red Devils to Titles at Galen Piper

(Shippensburg, Pa.) – The 18th-ranked Dickinson women's cross country team opened the 2018 season with a pair of titles at the Galen Piper Invitational at Shippensburg University. The Red Devils captured the team title, outscoring Division II Shippensburg, 29-70. Messiah placed third, followed by the Ship Alumni, York College and Gettysburg.

Junior Sarah House (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) led the way for the Red Devils, claiming the individual title with winning time of 15:14.

The Red Devils had a strong showing with four runners finishing in the top 10. Sophomore Emma Johnston (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) was just one second ahead of Allyson Yanega (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) as they crossed the line fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 15:20 and 15:21.

Junior Tessa Cassidy (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) was seventh overall with a mark of 15:28. First-years Elaina Clancy (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and Isabel Fife (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) had solid collegiate debuts, finishing 12th and 13th.

Sarah Yanega (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) crossed the line 14th while senior Lucile Ionescu (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) was in the top 20, placing 17th on the night.

The Red Devils are back in action next Friday, traveling to Gettysburg for the Little Three Championships, competing against Franklin & Marshall and the host Bullets at the Battlefield.
