(Lexington, Va.) – The Dickinson football team had a great start to the 2019 season, posting a 26-14 win at Washington & Lee University on Saturday afternoon.
Junior place-kicker Trystin Golowski (Columbus, N.J./Bishop Eustace) converted three field-goals and first-year Matt Moroz (Hatfield, Pa./Pope John Paul II) split the uprights from 38 yards out on his first collegiate attempt as well.
Golowski put the Red Devils on the board with a 32-yard field-goal at the midpoint of the first quarter for the only points of the opening stanza.
Junior transfer Tim Graham (Darien, Conn./Darien) connected with Daniel Bathon (Malvern, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) on a 12-yard strike to cap a nine-play drive, 95-yard drive and stretch the lead to 10-0 with 12:20 remaining in the first half.
The teams traded punts before Golowski added three points from 30 yards out with just over two minutes to play.
The Generals went to the ground game to execute the two-minute drill and came away with a five-yard touchdown run from quarterback Drew Richardson to make the score 13-6 at the break.
Dickinson added a pair of field-goals in the third quarter with Golowski hitting from 18 before Moroz connected from 38 to stretch the margin to 19-6 with just over five minutes to go in the quarter.
The Generals would keep things interesting as Richardson found the end zone and then added a two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 19-14 to start the fourth quarter.
Senior Jordan Hollander (Waverly, Pa./Abington Heights) dropped a 55-yard punt but it went into the end zone for a touchback. The Devils quickly regained possession, however, as sophomore Johnny Knight (Warwick, Pa./Bohemia Manor) intercepted Richardson on the second play of the drive and set Dickinson up on W&L's 36-yard line.
Junior quarterback Rob Geiss (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) made his way into the end zone from two yards out after solid running from Jeremy Walsh (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) and Phillip Butler (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin).
The Generals tried to rally but would run out of time as the Red Devils held on fourth down with the help of a tackle-for-loss by Sheldon Brown (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley).
The Red Devils combined for 446 yards of total offense on the day as Graham went 15-for-25 for 306 yards passing. That ranks him fourth on the program list for passing yards in a single game.
Daniel Salamone (Great Falls, Va./Langley) and Christopher Longo (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) were on the receiving end, combining for just under 250 yards. Salamone made five catches for 129 while Longo pulled in six catches for 120 yards on the day.
Hollander had a big day as well, averaging 42.4 yards per punt and added a nine-yard interception return to go with nine tackles.
The Red Devils return to Carlisle for the Centennial Conference and home opener next Saturday. They will host Muhlenberg College at 1:00 pm.
