(Carlisle, Pa.) – Prior to opening kick-off on Saturday the Dickinson football honored former offensive lineman Christopher Holmes '15, who sadly passed away this past April. After his parents joined the captains for the coin toss, the Red Devils honored Holmes again with an outstanding performance, rolling to a 51-21 victory over Juniata College.
Holmes would be proud of his fellow offensive linemen as the Red Devils rushed for 170 yards while junior quarterback Tim Graham (Darien, Conn./Darien) completed 20-of-27 passes for 283 yards and a remarkable five touchdowns.
Graham connected with Christopher Longo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) for a 19-yard touchdown in the first quarter and found him again, early in the second on a seven-yard strike to put Dickinson out in front, 14-0.
After a Johnny Knight (Warwick, Md./Bohemia Manor) interception in the end zone the Red Devils went 80 yards on 11 plays before Graham found senior Mac Brown (Canton, Mass./Canton) wide open in the end zone to stretch the lead to 21-0, with 4:25 remaining in the first half.
It was a wild final 1:24 as the teams would put up 21 more points before the break. Tyler Clark hit Clay Spencer for a 17-yard touchdown with 1:24 on the clock.
Graham moved the Devils quickly down the field and found Longo for his third touchdown of the day with just 23 seconds remaining in the half.
Juniata wasn't quite done however, as Marson Weh broke free and went 93-yards on the ensuing kick-off to make the score 28-14 at the break.
The Red Devils scored on the opening drive of the second half as Robert Geiss (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) found pay dirt with 11:54 to play in the third.
Junior Taj DeFrance (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) made a beautiful diving interception at the Dickinson 39-yard line, setting the stage for another Red Devil touchdown. Jeremy Walsh (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) made a great catch and run for a first down and capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown to stretch the lead to 42-14 at the 1:24 mark.
Juniata added its final score of the day as Clark found Ben Lauver in the back of the end zone with 12:58 remaining in the game.
Jordan Hollander (Dalton, Pa./Abington Heights) launched a 59-yard punt to pin the Eagles on their own two-yard line. Sophomore Steven Jacobs (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) broke through the line and brought Fletcher Hart down in the end zone for a safety.
Phillip Butler (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) returned the free kick 23 yards to the Juniata 43. On the next play Graham hit Daniel Salamone (Great Falls, Va./Langley) for a 43-yard touchdown on the very next play.
Salamone finished with seven catches for 131 yards and a touchdown while Longo scored three times, covering 69 yards on five receptions.
Hollander had a huge day, averaging 53.0 yards on three punts with a long of 59 while dropping three inside the 20-yard line. He added five tackles and had a big pass break-up as well.
Knight finished with seven tackles, including six solos, adding the interception and a fumble recovery. Jaiden Cruz (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Choate Rosemary Hall) made six tackles to go with a pair of sacks. James Turner (Ridgefield, Conn./Suffield Academy) had five solos and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
The Red Devils improve to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road next Saturday, traveling to Moravian College. The opening kick-off has been moved up to 12:00 pm.
