(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team had tough outing on Saturday as visiting Ursinus clawed its way past the Red Devils for a 95-88 decision.
The Red Devils had a strong start, using four three-pointers to jump out to a 19-9 advantage. Ursinus made a run of its own, taking a 28-27 lead at the midpoint of the half.
The Bears were able to capitalize on numerous trips to the free throw line, going 15-for-16 in the first half to lead, 46-42, at the break.
Ursinus was able to hold the lead, but the Red Devils were able to keep the Bears in striking distance for the better part of the second half. The Bears built the lead to 12 in the final two minutes, but still were not able to close out the game.
Junior Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) knocked down a three-pointer and converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to just seven with 50 seconds remaining. Allen found Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) for a three-pointer to pull Dickinson within five at the 17-second mark.
The Bears remained solid at the line and would escape with a 95-88 win to improve to 12-7 overall and 9-3 in the Centennial Conference. The Bears went to the line 43 times on the afternoon, adding 35 poiints from the charity stripe. The Red Devils were solid as well, hitting 11 of their 13 attempts on the day.
All five starters reached double-figures for the Red Devils. Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) went 6-for-8 from the free throw line for a team-high 18 points, adding five rebounds and two steals. Hinckley was perfect on the afternoon, going 7-for-7 for the floor, scoring 16 points and handing out eight assists.
The Red Devils slip to 9-10 overall and 7-5 in the conference. They are on the road on Wednesday night, traveling to Muhlenberg College for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
