Maher Nets 100th Goal in Win at Green Turtle Classic

(Owings Mills, Md.) – The #16-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team jumped out early and had to grind out an 11-9 victory over host #19-ranked Stevenson University at the Green Turtle Classic on Friday night.

Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) scored four goals, including the 100th of his career to lead the Red Devils. He struck twice in the opening quarter to give Dickinson a 4-2 lead at the end of the period.

The Mustangs opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals to tie the game. Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) found the net to put the Devils up 6-4 at the break.

Maher and Goles sandwiched tallies around a goal from Ethan Christensen to give the Devils an 8-5 lead

Christensen scored and handed out an assist as Stevenson tallied back-to-back to cut the deficit to one at the end of the third quarter.

Maher took a hard check but drew a two-minute extra-man opportunity in the process. He capitalized with a laser off an assist from Connor Ringwalt (Springfield, Pa./Episcopal Academy) to give Dickinson a 9-7 advantage at the 12 minute mark.

Sophomore goaltender Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made a big interception to give the Devils possession, with just under eight minutes to play but they were unable to convert.

Stevenson regained possession and went man-up at the 6:41 mark. Pellicano came up big again with an early save. The Devils were flagged again and were able to hold for a while but the Mustangs would take advantage, pulling within a goal at the five-minute mark.

Pellicano made a stop and Maher fed Strods, who dove across the goal-mouth and found the back of the net at the 2:57 mark. A shot clock warning sent Strods to the goal again to give Dickinson a three-goal lead.

Stevenson answered almost immediately and claimed the ensuing face-off but the Devils held on defense and another save secured the 11-9 victory.

Maher went over the century mark with his four goals, adding one assist to lead the Red Devil attack. He becomes the eighth player in program history to reach the milestone.

Goles finished with a pair while Ringwalt handed out two assists. Jack Doran (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford School) tallied four ground balls and Zach Blumenstein (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) forced a pair of turnovers on defense. Pellicano finished with 15 saves on the night.

The Red Devils improve to 4-2 on the season. They have another big test tomorrow night, facing Denison University at 5:30 pm. The #2-ranked Big Red suffered a 19-13 upset to #10 Amherst on Friday to slip to 5-1.
