(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team struck quickly at Swarthmore, putting two goals on the board in the opening 20 minutes of Saturday night's Centennial Conference opener. They tacked on a pair after the break for the final of 4-0.
The Red Devils scored in the eighth minute as senior Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy, N.H.) redirected a header into the net off a cross from junior Colin Fagan (Chalfont, Pa./C.B. South).
Dickinson capitalized on corner as sophomore Tayler Eynon (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) found Brendan McGovern (Burlington, Vt./Kimball Union Academy, N.H.) to double the lead with 25 minutes to play in the half.
McGovern added some insurance, netting a nicely placed volley into the corner of the net with 23 minutes to play. McGovern split the defense with some quality passing through the midfield with Ian Logan (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) and Gilbert both earning assists on the play.
The Garnet countered and had a great opportunity, ripping a hard shot but John Baney (Ridgewood, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) was there to make the save.
Gilbert would net his second of the night, capitalizing on a misplayed ball to the keeper and ripping a shot into the night in the 77th minute.
The Garnet held a slim edge on shots, 11-9, and forced four corners while allowing three from the Red Devils.
Baney finished with three saves to earn the shutout as Dickinson improve to 3-4 overall.
The Red Devils travel to Neumann University on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm kick-off.
