#10 Virginia Tops Devils in Mid-Atlantic Opening Round

(Charlottesville, Va.) – The #25-ranked Dickinson men's squash team suffered a tough loss at the Mid-Atlantic Championships, falling to host University of Virginia, 8-1, on Saturday morning.

The #10-ranked Cavaliers improved to 12-5 on the season, despite some strong individual performances from the Red Devils.

Junior Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School, Conn.) earned the point for the Red Devils, winning the top flight in straight sets (11-6, 11-8, 11-6).

Senior Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) played well in a 3-2 setback in the number three spot. He led 2-1 before Toby Hansford rallied with a pair of 12-10 sets to earn the point (5-11, 13-11, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10).

Senior Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) had a strong match in the fifth, falling 3-1.

The Red Devils slip to 3-9 on the season. They are scheduled to play MIT and George Washington on Sunday at 9:30 and 1:30 pm, respectively.
