(Carlisle, Pa.) – Dickinson senior Eric Herrmann (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) was named the Centennial Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, earning First-team All-Conference honors as well.
Herrmann had a great finish to the regular season, capturing four individual titles, including three straight and the Centennial Conference title on October 27th. He makes his second appearance on the All-CC squad, earning Second-team recognition last fall.
Herrmann was named the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (UST&FCCCA) Division III National Athlete of the Week following the CC Championships.
Running in adverse conditions, Herrmann broke away from the pack with less than two miles to go and captured the individual title in 25:13, five seconds ahead of the runner-up. Herrmann was the first Dickinson male athlete to win the individual title since Greg Leak in 2009.
This was the third win in a row for Herrmann, who also notched victories at the De Sales Invitational and a highly competitive Connecticut College Invitational two weeks ago. Herrmann was the first Red Devil to be named National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season and became the first male athlete from the Centennial Conference to be honored.
Junior Bryce Descavish (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) was honored as a Second-team selection, placing 11th in the individual standings. Descavish makes his second appearance on the All-Conference team, earning First-team honors in 2017.
Descavish was the 2016 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year and earned All-Region honors for the past two seasons. He was named to the All-Mideast Region Freshman Team as well in 2016. Descavish posted three straight second-place finishes to start the season and ran to third at the De Sales Invitational.
In addition, senior Duncan Hopkins (Lancaster, Pa./JP McCaskey) was named to the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team.
The Red Devils combined to capture third place at the Centennial Conference Championships. They had a great start to the season, opening with four straight team titles. They return to action this Saturday, competing at the NCAA Mideast Regionals at De Sales.
