(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team opened Centennial Conference play with a sweep of visiting Ursinus College on Saturday. The Red Devils claimed the opener 5-3 and held on for a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

The Red Devils used a pair of errors and a two-RBI single from Marissa Fabbo (Wilbrham, Mass./Wilbraham & Munson) to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of game one.

Dickinson loaded the bases to set up and RBI walk for sophomore Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter). Classmate Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) singled in another to give the Red Devils a 4-0 lead.

The Bears looked to rally, scoring two runs in the fifth and adding another in the top of the sixth. The Red Devils added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) drove in Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) for the final of 5-3.

Siecinski led the Devils at the plate, going 2-for-4 while Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) earned the win with a six-hit effort, recording three strikeouts.

Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in game two, using a double and a single to score one in the top of the fifth. That sparked the Red Devils as they immediately responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Fabbo and Gutpelet both singled and Lindsey Keller (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) added a pinch-hit single to load the bases. Siecinski lined a base-hit into center to score both runs before the Bears could close out the inning.

The Red Devils kept the Bears off the board to complete the sweep with the 2-1 win. Siecinski went 2-for-4 once again, adding two RBI. Kat Vill (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) got the win in the nightcap, scattering six hits in a complete-game effort.

The Red Devils improve to 8-10 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. They return to action on Tuesday, hosting McDaniel College at 3:00 pm.
