(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team had a big inning to win game one but dropped the nightcap in a Centennial Conference split with Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday afternoon at Dickinson Park. The Red Devils claimed the opener, 8-1, but suffered a 4-1 setback in game two.
The Red Devils struck early in the opener as sophomore Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter) led-off the game with a single and immediately came around to score on a double from junior Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush).
The Diplomats tied the game with an unearned run in the top of the third as both pitchers had a solid handle on the game.
The Red Devils erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) drove in two runs with a single before Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in another run.
Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) was hit by a pitch to drive in another and Hannah Brenner (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) delivered with a two-RBI single as the Red Devils took control of the opener.
Dickinson pushed across another in the bottom of the sixth as Gutpelet doubled and came in to score in another RBI single from Siecinski for the final of 8-1.
Four Red Devils had multiple hits in the opener as Siecinski went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Brenner finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Gutpelet added two hits and scored three runs while Parise went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) went the distance to improve 9-4 on the season, allowing just three hits while recording five strikeouts.
The second game had a similar start as the Red Devils tallied a lone run in the bottom of the second. Brenner singled and moved to third on a single from Lindsey Keller (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken). Brenner came in to score on an error off the bat of Gutpelet for a 1-0 lead.
The Diplomats tied the game in the top of the third on a double from Lexi Piccinich. They tallied three runs in the top of seventh to slip away with the nightcap.
Caitlyn Erdman doubled to lead-off the inning and reached third on close play at third. She would score on a ground out and Piccinich came through with a two-RBI single for the 4-1 decision after F&M held in the bottom of the seventh.
Brenner went 3-for-3 in the nightcap to lead the Red Devils at the plate. Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) suffered the loss, despite a solid effort in the circle in game two.
The Red Devils move to 16-14 overall and remain in first in the conference standings at 9-3 on the season. They are home again on Saturday, hosting a non-conference double-header with Messiah College at 1:00 pm.
