Softball Splits at Swarthmore to Keep Hosting Hopes Alive

(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team split the regular season finale at Swarthmore College, taking the opener 2-0 and dropping a extra-inning affair, 3-2, in nine innings.

The Red Devils scored lone runs in the first and seventh innings to claim game one.

Sophomore Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter) singled to lead-off the game and came around to score on an RBI single from Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford).

Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) and Hannah Brenner (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) singled in the seventh and stole second and third. That set the stage for an RBI for Lindsey Keller (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) as she reached on a fielder's choice to put the Devils up 2-0.

Acocella went 2-for-3 in the opener. Senior Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) went the distance to improve to 12-5 overall. She held the Garnet to just two hits and recorded six strikeouts.

The Garnet struck quickly in game two, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Red Devils tallied lone runs in the second and sixth innings to pull even.

Hannah Seburn (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) singled and Marissa Fabbo (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham & Munson) doubled to left field to put the Red Devils on the board.

In the sixth, Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) reached on an error and advanced all the way to third. That set up a sacrifice fly for Acocella to tie the game.

The Garnet capitalized on a pair of errors in the ninth and scored on a bases-loaded walk to claim the nightcap.

Milaszewski turned in another strong effort, going 8.1 innings and holding Swarthmore to just four hits in the loss.

McConney, Seburn and Fabbo each went 2-for-4 in game two. Gutpelet added a hit and drew a pair of walks and stole a base.

The Red Devils move to 21-15 overall and 12-4 in the Centennial Conference. They must wait until Sunday to determine the conference standings as there remains three unfinished games on the schedule with seeding implications.
