(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team turned in a great performance but couldn't get past 7-1 Johns Hopkins University, falling 69-60, on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 7-2 start before first-year Jennifer Kremp (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) knocked down a three-pointer and Kate Deutsch (Marlton, N.J./Camden Catholic) finished inside to tie the game.

Kremp hit another three-pointer to cut a six-point lead in half before the Blue Jays closed out the quarter with a 22-16 advantage.

Hopkins built the lead to 10 in the second quarter but Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) countered with a three-pointer to break up the run and dished an assist to sophomore Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) to cut the deficit to 35-31 at halftime.

The Blue Jays stretched the lead to double-figures in the third quarter, but the Red Devils kept the margin within 12. A pair of Heiring free throws and a three-pointer from Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) to cut the lead to eight.

The Blue Jays led by 12 as the teams headed into the fourth quarter. Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Padalino hit three-pointers to cut the deficit to single-digits and Katie Weaver (Malvern, Pa./Episcopal Academy) buried a three-pointer to pull the Red Devils within five at the 1:42 mark.

The Blue Jays held on, hitting 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Padalino led the Red Devils with 15 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots, hitting a trio of three-pointers. Deutsch reached double-figures for the eighth straight game of her collegiate career, netting 10 points.

Heiring, Kremp and Weaver each finished with nine points. Weaver added rebounds and four steals while Kremp tallied three rebounds and three steals. Heiring added four rebounds and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

The Blue Jays improve to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 3-5 and 1-4 in the CC. Dickinson returns home to face Misericordia University on December 30th at 2:00 pm.
