Conference Leading Bullets Hold Off Red Devils

(Gettysburg, Pa.) - The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered a 77-47 setback to Centennial Conference front-runner, Gettysburg College on Thursday night.

The Red Devils jumped out to a quick 5-0 start and led 9-8 at the midpoint of the first quarter. The Bullets closed out the opening period with a 9-0 run to lead 17-9.

Gettysburg built the lead to as many as 13 in the second quarter, but the Red Devils were able to answer to keep the Bullets in check. First-year Jennifer Kremp (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) was solid at the free throw line and junior Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) knocked down a couple of big shots.

First-year Kate Deutsch (Marlton, N.J./Camden Catholic) went to work inside, cutting the deficit to eight points.

Carly Rice dished out an assist and hit a three-pointer to put Gettysburg in front, 37-24, at halftime.

The Bullets extended the lead in the third quarter, taking a 58-37 lead into the fourth. Hannah Peck (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart) hit a pair of free throws to start the period and senior Jonica Brown (Mohnton, Pa./The Hill School) came on to hit a quick three-pointer, a free throw and blocked a shot to spark the Red Devils.

Kremp led the Red Devils with 14 points, going 4-for-4 from the line. Deutsch pulled down 11 rebounds on the night, adding eight points while Padalino finished with seven points and four rebounds.

Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) tallied four points, four rebounds and two assists, and Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) had five rebounds.

The Bullets remained unbeaten in conference play, improving to 12-0. The Red Devils slip to 9-9 overall and 6-7 in the conference. They return home to face Ursinus College on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
