(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team turned in a strong performance but came up short against #5-ranked York College as the Spartans took an early lead and went on to a 13-5 decision on Friday afternoon.
York jumped out to a 3-0 start behind two goals from Meghan Fox. Junior Anne Dunster (Cos Cobb, Conn./Greenwich) broke up the run with a free position goal before Fox countered to make the score 4-1, with 9:52 remaining in the half.
York struck again and added a pair of free position goals to stretch the lead to 7-1. First-year Erika Boles (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) finished an assist from classmate Greta Holt (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) to cut the deficit to 7-2 at the break.
The Spartans opened the second half with four straight goals, but they wouldn't come easy as the Red Devils continued to show well. Regan Cook tallied three during the run, netting her final at the 16:47 mark.
Junior Maddie Parker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) made a strong move to add a goal at the 13:51 mark and Ashley Conner (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) countered a pair of free positions with one of her own for the final of 13-5.
Parker was strong on the draw, controlling five on the day while Mindy Corney (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) controlled three ground balls, two draws and forced a turnover. Julia Primeau (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) forced three turnovers on the defensive end.
Avery Priest (San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) finished with three saves and a ground ball.
The Red Devils slip to 4-5 overall. They are home again on Wednesday night, hosting McDaniel College on Coaches vs. Cancer night at Biddle Field. Opening face-off is set for 7:00 pm.
