Big Win Sends Red Devils to Third Straight CC Semifinal

(Haverford, Pa.) – The #5-seed Dickinson women's lacrosse team had a great start in the first round of the 2018 Centennial Conference playoffs, jumping out to 6-0 lead on the way to a 17-12 win at #4-seed Haverford on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils advance to their third straight conference semifinal, winning their first Centennial playoff game at Haverford in 2016.

First-year Erika Bloes (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) bookended the 6-0 run with a pair of goals while junior Sam Marmo (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) struck twice and dished out an assist.

Marmo countered a Haverford goal with a natural hat-trick, scoring on a free position and finishing assists from Bloes and Mack Maurer (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) to put Dickinson up, 9-1.

Haverford strung to together four straight goals before Maurer countered on an assist from junior Anne Dunster (Cos Cobb, Conn./Greenwich) with just 23 seconds to play in the half. Katie Sollee converted a free position as time expired to cut the deficit to 10-6 at the break.

The Devils tried to gain some separation with three goals to start the second half. Marmo opened with a free position and Bloes scored twice for a 12-6 advantage, and again at the 11:09 mark to make the score, 14-7.

The 'Fords scored back-to-back and then traded goals with the Red Devils for the final of 17-12.

Bloes finished with six goals and two assists while Marmo tallied six goals and one assist to lead the way while Maurer tallied two goals, two assists and three draw controls.

Maddie Parker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) forced four turnovers and controlled six ground balls. First-year Avery Priest (San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) turned in a strong performance in the nets, making 12 saves.

The Red Devils improve to 9-8 on the season while Haverford finishes at 12-5. Dickinson advances to Saturday's semifinals at top-seed Franklin & Marshall. The Red Devils will face the #7-ranked Diplomats at 12:00 pm. Gettysburg College face Washington College in the other semifinal.
