Red Devils Strike Early for 2-0 Start

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season, posting a 1-0 victory over visiting Penn State Berks on Tuesday night at Miller Memorial Field.

Senior Addy Zandi (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) drew a penalty kick in the 15th minute and classmate Rachel Lazris (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) placed the ball in the back of the net to put the Red Devils on the scoreboard.

The Red Devils had some strong chances on corners with Zandi and senior Elizabeth Krause (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) handling the serves with strong play in front of the net from first-year Meg Tate (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and senior Ally Diez (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side), combining to put seven shots on net.

The Red Devils had strong play in the back with first-years Lauren Bracken (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Baldwin School) and Sarah Hughes (Media, Pa./Penncrest) making an impact with veterans Annie Pendleton (Warrenton, Va./Highland) and Bryce Delaney (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) in the defensive third.

Sophomore goaltender Carli Boyer (Sinking Spring, Pa./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) made her first start in the nets, turning away a pair of strong shots to earn her first collegiate shutout.

The Red Devils outshot the Lions 11-3 and held a 12-1 advantage in corners, forcing seven in the second half.

The Red Devils are on the road this weekend, traveling to Christopher Newport University. They will face Virginia Wesleyan on Friday night at 7:00 pm and then take on the host Captains on Saturday night in an 8:00 pm kick-off.
