Red Devils Have Strong Showing Against Gettysburg

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's swim team suffered just its third setback of the season as visiting Gettysburg College claimed a 114-90 win on Wednesday night at the Clarke Aquatic Center.

Junior Molly Sternick (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) followed up Centennial Conference Swimmer of the Week honors with another strong performance, winning three events. She captured the 50-freestyle with a mark of 25.41 and clocked a 1:00.34 to win the 100-yard butterfly. She joined the 200-medley relay for her third win of the night.

Senior Olivia Lyman (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) continued to dominate in the distance events, winning the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle with times of 10:45.06 and 5:13.64. She anchored the 200-free relay to third with a time of 1:45.11.

Senior Katie Schmidt (Plymouth, Minn./Breck School) led-off the winning medley relay to a time of 1:53.05 and touched the wall first in the 100-backstroke with a mark of 1:00.34. Classmate Sammy Boswell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) anchored the medley relay and placed third in the 200-free relay and in the 100-butterfly (1:02.95).

Junior Madeline Callahan (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 200-individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.

Shannon Bonner (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Sasha Arefyev (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side) joined the free relay while Arefyev added a third-place showing in the 100-freestyle.

The Red Devils slip to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the CC. They wrap up the regular season at Swarthmore College on Saturday. The first event is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
