Women's Tennis Opens Fall With 6-3 Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team had a nice start to its fall season, turning back Goucher College, 6-3, on Saturday.

The Red Devils jumped out to an early lead, claiming all three doubles matches. Sophomore Rachel Flame (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and first-year Katherine Pescinski (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./The Pine School) won the top flight, 8-4 while Lexi Epstein (Falmouth, Maine/Waynflete) and Olivia Carnevale (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) earned the point in the second flight by the same score.

Senior Olivia Shea (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) and sophomore Rachel O'Brien (West Roxbury, Mass./Dana Hall School) secured the third flight, 8-3.

Flame battled early and finished strong in the top singles flight, winning the match (7-6 (10-8), 6-1).

Carnevale went (6-3, 6-2) to win the point at the number five spot and senior Elisa Varlotta (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) won at six (6-4, 6-3).

The Red Devils will travel to Loyola University on October 2 to face the Greyhounds at 3:00 pm.
