(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team had a great start to the 2018 season, winning its opening two matches at the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic.
The Red Devils posted a pair of straight set wins, turning back Penn State Harrisburg (25-11, 25-12, 25-8) and holding off Penn State Altoona (25-19, 25-12, 25-23).
First-year Morgan Biggs (Stephenson, Va./James Woods) led the attack in her collegiate debut against Harrisburg with a team-high 10 kills. Classmate Jenna Schumann (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) tallied six kills and three service aces. Emma Lange (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin) added four kills and a pair of aces and two block assists.
Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott Secondary) and first-year Christina Chu (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) combined for 24 assists, four aces and six digs. Jacqueline Banker (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) tallied a team-high 12 digs.
Biggs and Lange combined for 15 kills and five block assists in the second match. Chu handed out 20 assists with Berezen adding nine in the nightcap. Sophomore Tatiana Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas) picked up 17 digs.
The Red Devils return to action on Saturday, facing Lancaster Bible College and Messiah at the Battlefield Classic with matches at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
