(Williamsport, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team had a strong start at the Lycoming College Warrior Classic on Friday night, opening the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Clarks Summit. The Red Devils swept the Defenders (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) using a balanced attack at the net. They posted a 3-0 win over Cortland State to improve to 4-3 on the season.
First-year Hannah Riley (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) led the charge with nine kills while classmate Jenna Schumann (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) tallied seven kills, five aces and six digs in the opener. Kristin Allgaier (Reston, Va./South Lakes) handed out 18 assists to go with a pair of kills and two digs.
First-year Christina Chu (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) had 11 assists, nine digs and an ace. Sophomore Jacqueline Banker (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) tallied a team-high 14 digs with first-years Emma Lange (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin) and Elise Butler (Chester Springs, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) each adding five kills.
The Red Devils put together a strong start in their second match of the night, jumping out to an early lead on Cortland State. The Red Dragons rallied to cut the deficit to 21-20 and trailed 23-22 before Dickinson closed out the set 24-22.
The Devils repeated the scenario in the next two sets, taking early leads on the way to another sweep with scores of 25-18 and 25-20.
Schumann led the attack in the nightcap with six kills and three aces, adding 10 digs as well. Riley had six kills as did Jamie Singer (Livingston, N.Y./Golda Och) while Butler had five kills and served up four aces.
Tatiana Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas) picked up 13 digs with Allgaier (16a) and Chu (10a) combining for 26 assists. Allgaier added six digs and a pair of aces.
The Red Devils return to action in the Warrior Classic on Saturday, facing Lycoming at 11:00 am and closing out with Gettysburg at 1:00 pm.
