College women's basketball team battled to the end, but fell to
visiting Muhlenberg, 76-69, on Tuesday night. |
Sophomore Alexandra Chili (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) led
the 16th-ranked Mules with a game-high 31 points, hitting 7-of-11
three-pointers on the night.
Muhlenberg opened with a 5-0 run and led throughout the first
half, holding a 33-26 advantage at the break. The Mules pulled in
front 51-41 at the 11:40 mark before the Devils went on an 18-6 run
to take their first lead with 6:21 remaining in the game.
Chili tied the game on the next possession and later gave the
visitors a five point lead with less than a minute to play. Junior
forward Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair
Academy) answered and was then fouled on the rebound
after Dickinson sent Kelly McKeon (Watertown, Conn/Holy Cross) to
the line with 20 seconds left in regulation. Sisco hit both free
throws to pull the Devils within one, 70-69.
Alexandra Berlin and Chili combined to hit 6-of-6 free throws
down the stretch to secure the win for Muhlenberg (3-1, 2-0).
Four Red Devils reached double-figures. Brooke
Muller (Northampton, Pa./Whitehall) led the way with
17 points, hitting 7-of-8 free throws.
Sisco recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12
rebounds. Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston
Churchill)added 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and
two steals. First-year Belma Mekic (Camp Hill,
Pa./Cedar Cliff) chipped in with 10 points
while Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great
Valley) tallied nine points and seven rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial
Conference. They are home again on Thursday, hosting McDaniel
College at 7:30 pm.
