(Chestertown, Md.) - The
Dickinson College women's basketball team held off a furious
comeback attempt by Washington College for a 68-65 win in
Chestertown. |
Senior guard Brooke Muller (Northampton,
Pa./Whitehall)scored her 1,000th point on her first
field-goal, draining a three-pointer at the 13:35 mark of the first
half.
Muller's triple stretched an early Dickinson lead to 12-3. The
Red Devils led 20-6 before the Shorewomen battled back to within
35-27 at halftime.
Dickinson slowly built the lead in the second half, holding a
60-36 advantage with 8:51 remaining. The momentum changed on a
Sally O'Donnell three-pointer, triggering a run that would pull
Washington within a basket in the final minutes.
Erin Kile hit a jumper to pull Washington within striking
distance, 67-65, with 36 seconds remaining in regulation.
Muller hit the first of two free throws to put the Devils in
front by three with 29 seconds on the clock.
Jane O'Donnell put up a three-pointer with five seconds to play,
but the ball was off the mark and cleared by
junior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair
Academy).
Muller finished with 18 points on the night, giving her 1,016
for her career. She also dished out five assists and made two
steals.
Sisco had a big night as well, scoring a game-high 25 points and
controlling 10 rebounds for a double-double. She went 7-for-9 from
the free throw line and added three steals.
Junior Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston
Churchill)added five points, seven rebounds and four
assists.
Washington (6-8, 4-5) had four players reach double-figures led
by Maggie King with 18 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the free
throw line.
The Red Devils improve to 9-4 overall and 5-4 in the Centennial
Conference. They travel to Johns Hopkins for a 1:00 tip-off on
Saturday.
