(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College women's basketball team held off visiting Haverford for a
53-46 Centennial Conference win on Saturday. |
The Devils used a balanced attack led by a game-high 15 points
from senior Brooke Muller (Northampton,
Pa./Whitehall). Muller dished out four assists and went
7-of-9 from the free throw line.
Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston
Churchill) tallied 10 points, five rebounds and a
game-high five steals. Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair
Academy) scored 10 points as well, adding six
rebounds and a pair of steals.
The starting backcourt of Taylor Miller (Red Lion,
Pa./Red Lion)and Belma Mekic (Camp Hill,
Pa./Cedar Cliff) each tallied eight points. Miller
added three assists and three steals while Mekic controlled seven
rebounds.
Dickinson stormed out to a 12-0 lead to open the game. The
'Fords answered with an identical run to knot the game with 9:06
remaining in the first half. The Devils went into the break with a
27-24 advantage.
The second half saw a similar pattern as the Devils stretched
the margin to a dozen, only to have Haverford pull to within a
field-goal, 39-37, at the midpoint of the half.
The 'Fords continued to challenge until the end, but the Devils
were solid from the free throw line, finishing 13-of-15 for the
game.
Nina Voith led Haverford (5-11, 3-9) with 14 points while
Dominique Meeks added 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Red Devils improve to 13-5 overall and 9-5 in the Centennial
Conference. They travel to Muhlenberg on Monday for a 7:30 tip-off
with the Mules.
